Fort Boonesborough

Daniel Boone founded Kentucky’s second settlement in April 1775, and one month later, the state’s first representative of government was held at Boonesborough. Boone had already been in the state years prior as he made his way through the Cumberland Gap on the Wilderness Road.

Sycamore Shoals State Park/Fort Watauga

Clinchfield #2 Miners Commemoration

Four months before May 20, 1948, work was resumed in the 19-left section of the mine after a 22-year interval. The goal was to help straighten a pillar line and retrieve room pillars of the #1 and #2 rooms. Three parceled mined coal pillars, 150 feet wide, were driven through these rooms and left for protection when inbye room, and the entry pillars were mined in 1926.
The Country Doctor Museum

In 1967, Dr. Josephine Newell and Dr. Gloria Flippin Graham with a group of women founded The Country Doctor Museum. Both doctors come from a family line of physicians and were very dedicated doctors to their communities. Dr. Newell would make house calls day and night and had the reputation of carrying a pistol to house calls.
North Carolina Museum of History

Take a walk through the North Carolina Museum of History to see many great exhibits and artifacts dating back centuries. The museum opened on December 5, 1902, by Frederick Augustus Olds who already had a collection of artifacts from prior years. The museum is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Affiliations program.
Boston Tea Party 250 Commemoration

On Sunday, October 1, a rendition of the Boston Tea Party was held at the Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail Interpretive Center to commemorate its 250th Anniversary.
Hank Williams Death

William was scheduled to play at a New Year’s gig in Canton, Ohio. He hired Charles Carr, a college freshman, to drive him. Williams had already felt ill when they stopped at the Andrew Jackson Hotel in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Natalie Wood

#OnThisDay in 1981, actress Natalie Wood drowned in a boating accident near Catalina Island in California. Wood was with her husband, actor Robert Wagner on their yacht, and actor Christopher Walken moored near Los Angeles.
